Warning to fellow "Word Nerds" and "Grammar Gurus"

Though I am an editor, I'm not going to sensor or edit my thoughts in this blog.
Hopefully, I don't make grammatical errors. If I do, get over it... I'm human!

Mother & Daughter Vacation

My mom and I used to take a vacation together every year, but thanks to this job I didn't have time last year. I decided to make sure to take one this year, by scheduling it before the deadlines begin.

We are going to Anaheim, CA at the end of September. I get to visit with Panda while I'm there, so this will be awesome!!! :)

My mom is almost as excited as I am. She may not tag along with Panda and me to every place, but she will get to see a lot. I just found out today that we are staying 2 blocks from where they (mom, dad, sis) stayed when they went to the Rose Parade (including behind the scenes) last winter. She is familiar with the area. So with mom and Panda as my guides, I'll have plenty of new things to see.

This has to be the best work every. I get to pretend to be a child and figure out these crosswords, word searches, and jumbles. Yipppeeee! :)

A teacher wrote this?

I'm reading a book for work to help me understand how the authors, for the writing lessons, think writing should be taught. They give examples of scripts teachers have used in there studies.
One wacky story involves a boy named Gerald Wiz, Gee for short. Gee and his parents just moved to Orlando, right next to Disneyworld. The story includes that Mr. Wiz works for Disney and Mrs. Wiz is a semi-pro golfer. They are unpacking their boxes and out jumps a ghost. Here is a direct quote from the script: "Who's Gee Wiz gonna call? Ghostbusters?" The script goes on to show students how to finish the story, and includes the Ghostbusters using their blasters and trapping the ghost. The parents are relieved, but Gee really wanted a pet ghost. The script does say that maybe the ending should be re-written, but I think the entire story should be tossed.

I'm really concerned for our future, if children are being taught to rip off lines from movies in order to write a story.

Freelance can teach you alot

I am editing articles for my freelance job and just had some on carried concealed permits. I just found out that in VT you can carry a concealed weapon as long as you are over 16. No permit is required. I also found that they prohibit the use of a silencer, but the fine is only $25. When I told my husband that he said, "I need to move to Vermont! I would love to use a silencer on people."

I think I need to hide anything he could use as a weapon.

For anyone that isn't sure... he is not serious and would never kill someone.

Your own 5 cents

I have added a cork board to the bottom of my blog. Scroll down to add your own pictures, comments, or 5 cents! :)

Pride

Panda and I had a pride filled weekend. We showed our support for Gay rights, by marching in the Pride Parade with a friend's church. Then on Sunday, we watched Bat 'n Rouge. I think that is the only way that I could ever watch softball. I love to play softball, but it is really boring to watch. I loved all of the great costumes, yet was disgusted by how much better some of them looked in dresses than I do. I loved the very drunk cheerleaders that tried to tackle the base runners. Most of them ended up getting tackled themselves.

This was a fun filled weekend with Pan. I'm cramming in as much time with her as I can before she takes off to California.

New book idea

I have tons of book ideas. Many of them are half started. I don't know why I can't ever finish one, but I haven't so far.

My new idea is to write down all of my husband's crazy quotes. Then, I'm going to turn them into a book, adding my own translations. This book idea is going to be a life-long process, because something crazy comes out of his mouth every day. I wouldn't want to leave anything out.

I have started to write down the quotes in a little notebook that I keep in my purse. That way I will be able to catch all of them, no matter where I am.

Ooohh, I just thought of another one.....

Panda this is for you!

In order to keep up to date with Pan, I am going to make an effort to keep my blog updated.
